MAISON D'AFIE (Cameroon)

The brain behind Maison D’Afie (House of Afie) Sarah Divine is a self made entrepreneur from Douala Cameroon who is taking the fashion industry by storm. Sarah pursued a career in accounting but her love and passion for designing won the battle of her heart. She said her love for designing started at the tender age of three, “From the age of three, I’d started designing and sewing things for my dolls. As I grew older, I put my dolls away and started focusing on always looking good myself”, and all through her teenage years she grew up in a sewing room highly influenced and inspired by her mother who introduced her to sewing, creating the vast majority of her wardrobe essentials. In 2009 she went into full time designing with her mother Afie as co-partner. Sarah designs the cloths while her mum runs the sewing room in which the designs are created and she trains and supervises a small group of people driven by passion and an obsession over detail.

Sarah also reveals that her inspiration comes from experiences and different cultures around Africa especially Cameroon and Nigeria which are her two countries of origin. Her work is classic and aimed at the modern woman, who loves to be unique, classy and bold. Her collections have been at shows such as Afric Collection which is a show organized every February in Cameroon to show works of upcoming designers, African Fashion Week New York (AFWNY) amng others.

They say there is no place like home. Indeed Sarah has found her place in the fashion world and does not look like one to leave just yet because she has come to stick around for a very long time.
